It was a day to remember for students across Croydon as GCSE results were revealed.

Here are some of the best results from schools all around the area.

Trinity School:

This year 68 per cent of grades were awarded A*, 9 or 8, when last year 58 per cent of grades were A*s.

Sidhanth Sureshkumar, who achieved all A* and 9 grades, said: “I worked really hard and our teachers have been fantastic, so I’m really happy.”

John Fisher School in Purley:

Results include performance at the highest grades, as 21 per cent of all exam entries received A*/A (7, 8 or 9).

There were also strong performances across the board in design technology (41 per cent 7+), geography (31 per cent 7+), food technology (30 per cent 7+), ICT (27 per cent 7+) and history (26 per cent 7+).

Woodcote High School in Coulsdon:

Almost three-quarters of grades were a pass or above.

Pupil Sairah Ahmad achieved a total of six grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7.

Meanwhile, Natasha Hughes attained four 9s, two 8s, two 7s and a grade A.

Archbishop Tenison's Church of England High School:

A total of 84 per cent of pupils achieved a 4+ grade in English language and 73 per cent in maths. 70 per cent of pupils achieved a 5+ in English language and 53 per cent in maths.

Coloma Convent Girls' School:

44 per cent of grades were at grade 7 or higher, equivalent to an A or A* last year, with 23 per cent of the grades being either an 8 or a 9.

The science department led the way with 20 per cent of chemistry grades awarded being a 9.

Headteacher Jackie Johnson said: "I am also pleased that the students have achieved these results across a wide range of subjects while still continuing to participate in extra-curricular activities that include music, sport and debating."

Harris Academy Crystal Palace:

80 per cent of students achieved at least five GCSEs including English and maths;

Under the new system, passes are marked on a scale of Grade 9 (equivalent to an A**) to Grade 4 (equivalent to a C). 90 per cent of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English and 84 per cent did so in maths. Three students, Jacob Ashitey, Gihan Mallikaarachchige and Arbri Alia all achieved nine Grade 9s.

Harris Academy South Norwood and Harris Academy Upper Norwood:

In summary 84 per cent of students gained GCSEs in English and 70 per cent in maths while 33 per cent of students achieved the demanding English baccalaureate –far higher than the national average which is normally around 20 per cent.

Oasis Academy Shirley Park:

55 per cent of students have achieved a 4 of above in English and maths this year and huge 35 per cent achieved the higher level 5 in both subjects.

Michael Shahu and Natalie Gyau each achieved three grade 9s.

Harris Academy Purley:

Akash Karthigaiselvan achieved Grade 9s in all three sciences. He also achieved Grade 8s (equivalent to the old A*) in English, history and maths.

Sajid Hassam who achieved Grade 9s in chemistry, economics and English as well as grade 8s in history, physics, maths and biology.

Meridian High School:

Head Girl Tayla Lock got seven 9s, one 8 and one A* and is off to Trinity School sixth form in Shirley to do maths and science. She was delighted with the result and her mum, Helen Sellars, said: “I feel so elated and happy for her. She spent every evening revising.”

Chenille Smith, deputy head girl, got eight passes, including English and maths, which she had worried she would not do well at, and a BTEC in sport.

“I’m overwhelmed, to be honest,” says Chenillle, who admits she didn’t work hard until Year 8.

Croydon High School GDST:

More than 30 per cent of numbered grades awarded to Croydon High girls are the top Grade 9 while more than 50 per cent of all grades awarded at GCSE graded A*, 8 or 9.

Quest Academy:

65 per cent of all results were Grade 4+ or C+ with a larger number of subjects than ever before seeing their cohorts meet or surpass this figure.

Six out of ten students achieved five GCSEs between grades 9 and 4 including English and Maths.
