An original play written and directed by a Croydon playwright will open in an intimate venue later this month.
David Trotter’s 'The Bear Trap’ will run from 19-22 September at The Spread Eagle Theatre, a 50-seat capacity studio theatre situated above the Spread Eagle pub in Croydon.
A dark comedy, the play tells the story of a woman’s attempt to expose the truth about a scam psychic.
Mr Trotter said: “I’m so proud of the cast in this show; they have put so much effort into building their characters and making the story come to life.
“The chemistry between the cast during our rehearsals has been electric.”
He continued: “On the face of it ‘Psychic Celia’ is not a very nice person.
“She basically cons people out of money.
“However, there are aspects of her character that actor Dawn Cato has provided that portray a more vulnerable side.
“On the opposite end, the character Naomi, who is trying desperately to expose Ceila, appears at first to be a courageous person seeking out the truth.
“However, actor Susan Learmouth has done a fantastic job in portraying her character in a way that will leave the audience unsure of whether they actually want Celia to be exposed.”
Performances begin at 8pm at The Spread Eagle Theatre, 39-41 Katharine Street.
Tickets are £10 and can be purchased at www.exit-theatre.co.uk or at the door.
For the Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 performances half price tickets can be booked online using the promo code ‘FLASHFIVER’.
