A Deptford woman is working hard to bring an unusual festival to Woolwich next year.

Livia Filotico, 30, is the founder and director of the Moon Festival, which is to be held over three days next July.

Moon Festival celebrates humanity's relationship with the moon across cultures, time and disciplines and will run alongside the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

Livia told News Shopper: "I wanted the borough of Greenwich because of the connection between the Royal Observatory, the river, tides etc.

"So I spoke to the council and they told me everything about the creative district and I saw a possibility to do something that bridges the gap between the old and new residents."

There will be events such as live music, visual arts, storytelling and projections onto buildings.

Livia said: “In 1969, the moon got more people together than any other event ever before. This shows how much power the moon holds over our collective imagination.

"Today, more than ever, we need something that excites us, unites us and makes us put our differences aside. I believe the moon can do that. Connecting it to such a momentous anniversary will help that to happen.”
