Addiscombe 6
Surrey University 2

Addiscombe moved up to third in Surrey Division One with a comprehensive victory over Surrey University on Saturday.

Surrey started strongly forcing a series of early short corners. But keeper Clark was equal to them all with a couple of excellent low saves. The Addiscombe midfield then began to take a grip on the game and Wise scored a top-class goal beating most of the Surrey defence in the process.

Several good advantages were played as Surrey tired and failed to tackle Wise, who created space and slammed the ball home across the Surrey keeper.

Addiscombe deservedly stretched their lead when Yeates was wildly hacked in the D and Wise confidently slotted the resulting penalty stroke. Addiscombe then relaxed letting Surrey come back into the game and a well-worked short corner made it 2-1.

But good defending, especially from Davies and Oubridge, ensured Addiscombe went into half-time ahead.

In previous weeks Addiscombe have shown themselves to be vulnerable to quick goals after half-time.

But roles were reversed this week and almost straight from the restart good work from Thomas and Van de Willnard put Antony clear down the right.

He outpaced the Surrey defence to put the ball on a plate for Wray to sweep home from three yards.

Within five minutes it was 4-1 after Wray deflected a Yeates drive towards goal and to Surrey's horror watched the keeper leave the ball as it rolled into the unguarded goal.

Both teams could have scored plenty more but settled for a short corner strike from Van de Willnard and a last-minute strike to give Wise his hat-trick. In between, Surrey scored a deflected short corner but Addiscombe ran out deserved 6-2 winners.
