A clubber was was run over and and partially decapitated for stepping on a fellow reveller’s toe.

Ranjit Nankani, 30, of Croydon, was found guilty at the Old Bailey on Friday of the murder of Gary Johnson, 25, of Knollys Road, Streatham, who he ploughed into after accelerating on to the pavement opposite the Ministry of Sound club.

The murder happened over an argument that escalated when Nankani stepped on Mr Johnson's foot on the dancefloor inside the club.

The court was told Mr Nankani's actions were “a staggering act of revenge” after the two men and their friends were ejected from the club after a fight at an August bank holiday Monday event last year.

Mr Johnson was thrown into the air, carried on the bonnet and had his head partially decapitated against a wall as Nankani hit him in his Mitsubishi Shogun 4x4.

Nankani continued driving and collided with a parked car, after which Dwayne McPherson, a friend of Mr Johnson's, whipped out a gun and fired four shots at Nankani in an act of retaliation, hitting him once in the shoulder. Nankani, and two friends he was in the car with, fled the scene, but Nankani was linked to the murder after going to a policeman later in the evening to say he had been shot.

McPherson, of Sydenham, was found guilty of attempted murder of Nankani and posession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

In a twist to the trial, the two men had to sit next to each other in the dock.

Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Dunne, from the Metropolitan Police's homiside and serious crime command unit, said: "It is hard to believe that these men, who came out to enjoy an evening with their friends, managed to turn the evening into such a violent and tragic sequence of events.

"There were large amounts of people outside the club at the time that witnessed the horrific death of Gary Johnson and they must have been terrified to hear and see the gun shots.

"Due to a petty argument, these men made choices that have changed their lives forever and a man has tragically lost his life. Today's verdict is a result of a tireless investigation and assistance of some very brave witnesses who have helped us find justice for Gary Johnson's family."

Nankani will be sentenced on Monday, while McPherson, who was also convicted of possession of a firearm, will be sentenced on September 10.
