Kingstonian are to ask the Ryman League for their play-off final to be replayed after skipper Francis Duku was punched in the face by a supporter at Boreham Wood yesterday.

With the scores 0-0 early in the second half in the Ryman Premier League final, a fan raced onto the pitch and lashed out at the midfielder.

Boreham Wood went on to win 2-0, but after deliberations in the 24 hours after the match Ks co-chairmen Mark Anderson and Malcolm Winwright want the Ryman League to declare the result null and void.

A statement issued by the club read: "Further to discussions with the directors, playing staff and representatives of the supporters club, the Chairmen have decided that the assault by a spectator on a Kingstonian player during the play-off final yesterday had a serious effect upon the ongoing performance of the team.

"The club has therefore decided to lodge an appeal to the Ryman League forthwith. Club secretary Gerry Petit is in the process of notifying the league secretary."

Boss Alan Dowson, who was aiming for a second successive promotion having led Ks out of Ryman League Division One South last season, had earlier spoken of his disgust at the incident.

""Yesterday's play-off game should have been the biggest game of their careers for my players and the biggest the club has had in years," he told kingstonian.net

"You can take what happens in a game, but not what went on at Boreham Wood's ground. That was disgusting and it's left us feeling sick.

"We have an honest bunch of players and they just want to play football, not have your skipper Francis Duku punched in the face by a man running on to the pitch.

"You try and get on with it at the time but they were affected, no doubt about it. We went from our best spell in the game to falling into our shells.

"We had young lads and players with their families in the ground out there and when four of five of them are saying they want to come off and get away from it you have to wonder about their state of mind.

"The referee said to me afterwards that he had never seen anything like it in the game and would be writing a report.

"Our people handled themselves unbelievably in the circumstances and for that I am proud.

"The situation was nothing short of a scandal and if hooligans can do as they please to a game of football then maybe the game doesn't have a place in such society anymore.

"I hope that the powers that be have a long think about this."
