I am writing in response to the letter from Jean Mayfield regarding ongoing road works and general developments in Croydon blighting her life (Your Say, May 27) I do not wish to be rude, but my message to Jean would be to quit your moaning.

Roadworks are a fact of life that you will find whereever you go, particularly at this time of year when the council has either begun a project just before the end of the financial year to make the most of their budget, or flush with cash at the start of a new financial year is keen to get on and make improvements.

Of course it is aggravating, but it is much better that maintenance takes place than road and pavements being allowed to fall into a state of disrepair which can be extremely dangerous, especially for cyclists.

Regarding the redevelopment of Croydon – you must be one of the few people out there who is not desperate for things to get on and be completed.

We have been promised for years that Croydon is a sleeping giant and projects such as Westfield will allow it to reach its full potential.

Great – let us get on with it.

As you allude to in your letter, you have a property already and could well benefit from the predicted rise in prices.

For those who are not on the ladder, the creation of thousands of new flats, homes and opportunity is fantastic and cannot come soon enough.

Let us not let little complaints about a bit of noise pollution or traffic get in the way of progress that could transform Croydon and make it great.
