UPDATE (10.22am): Girl dies after being hit by van
A girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a van in Croydon town centre this morning.
The Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called to a road traffic collision in Wellesley Road, at 8.45am.
Officers from Croydon police were also called to the scene.
A spokeswoman for LAS said: "We sent a single responder in a car, an ambulance crew, a duty officer and London's Air Ambulance to the scene.
"Our staff treated one patient, a girl reported to be eight-years-old who was in cardiac arrest and she was taken to St George's Hospital in an ambulance escorted by the doctor from the air ambulance."
Motorists should expect delays in the area.
